What to Expect on Arrival

Bare root roses may look a little strange at first glance — brown canes, no leaves, and a tangle of roots. Don’t worry — they aren’t dead! They’re simply in their natural dormant state, exactly how roses rest through the winter. This is the best way to plant roses, as it allows them to establish strong roots before spring growth.

How to Care for Your Bare Root Rose

Unpack Immediately → Remove from box and keep roots slightly moist until planting.

Soak Before Planting → Submerge the roots in a bucket of clean water for 12–24 hours before planting.

Plant in Prepared Soil → Choose a sunny, well-drained location. Dig a wide hole, spread the roots out evenly, and backfill with rich soil.

Water Well → Give a deep watering after planting. Keep soil consistently moist (not soggy) while the rose establishes.

Be Patient → Growth may not be visible above ground right away. As temperatures warm, your rose will break dormancy and push fresh green shoots.
